Proposed plans to bring back OEP

A few years ago, OEP (Open Enrollment Period) occurred just after AEP (Annual Election Period).  OEP was from January 1st to March 31st and gave Medicare beneficiaries the ability to make one change to their MA, MAPD, or Part D plan. However, now we have the MA/MAPD disenrollment period from January 1st to February 14th.

Medicare Advantage Dis-enrollment Period

The Medicare Advantage Dis-enrollment Period (or MADP) begins on January 1, 2014 and continues through February 14th.  During the MADP, you can drop your Medicare Advantage plan and return to original Medicare, plus you will be able to join a stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.

Well, maybe that was supposed to be the Groundhog, but how cliche can we get!

CMS recognizes nearly 30 different scenarios other than AEP and IEP where an individual may enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, PDP or both.
Ø  Low-Income Subsidy (LIS)
Ø  Geographical Move
Ø  Skilled nursing or Long Term Care Hospital Confinement
Ø  Medicaid Eligibility

These are just a few of the many opportunities you can take advantage of to add new Medicare Advantage clients to your client list.  With our support, you could potentially increase your income by $30,000 to $40,000 annually as well as build a new client base to cross market to i.e. cancer plans, hospital plans, etc.
Fun Fact: Did you know that being released from prison qualifies a person for a special election into a MA, MAPD or PDP plan?

Find out about the numerous year round selling opportunities for Medicare Advantage AND how to market to these specific clients.

Confused about the Medicare Changes Announced this week???

We have the answers!

1. CMS has extended the Special Election Period (SEP) to February 28, 2011 for MAPD and PDP enrollees who lost coverage due to plan non-renewal, a service area reduction (SAR) for the 2011 plan year, or a plan termination.

2. Impacted individuals may choose a new MAPD plan, opt for a Medicare Supplement and a stand-alone PDP, or remain on original Medicare and purchase a stand-alone PDP.

* Also, don't forget about the MADP that ends as of 2-14-2011!

All about the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP)

During the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period-MADP (which began January 1, 2011 and continues until February 14th of this year), Medicare Advantage policy holders are given a chance to DISENROLL from an Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan and enroll in a standalone Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) instead.

It's extremely IMPORTANT TO NOTE that those who decide to enroll in a standalone PDP during the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period will be automatically disenrolled from their current MAPD and will not have the option of enrolling in another Medicare Advantage Plan.
